CIH conducts 2 days Farmers Training at Horticulture Research Farm, Pfutsero

Two days farmers training on horticulture crops was organized by Central Institute of Horticulture, DAC & FW, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, GOI, Medziphema, in collaboration with Horticulture Research Farm, Department of Horticulture, Pfutsero, Govt. of Nagaland, on 19th and 20th May 2018 at HRF, Pfutsero.

During the inaugural programme, Chairperson, Mr. Senti Longchar, (H.O., HRF) delivered the welcome address and highlighted the participants about the various activities undertaken by The Central Institute of Horticulture, Medziphema and the Department of Horticulture. Mr. Moalemba, DHO Phek, exhorted the participants and advised the farmers to adopt the crop selection and cultivation based on geographical and climatic condition of the region.

Meanwhile, in the first technical session, Mr. Tiakaba SDHO, Tseminyu delivered a detailed concept on the importance, scope and cultivation practices of kiwi under Nagaland condition. Important topics on problems and constrains of kiwi cultivation in Nagaland, supply and marketing of kiwi fruit was shared by Mr. Ngupetso, progressive kiwi grower, Dr. Rapal Singh, Senior Manager, Global Agri-system Pvt. Ltd. and Dr. Campbell Tacon, New Zealand respectively in the following session.

The programme followed by a field visit to Kiwi Farm School, Pfutsero and Rakho kiwi nursery. Altogether, 56 farmers from Tuensang and neighboring villages of Pfutsero area participated in the said training programme.

The two day training programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Kewecheu, HEA, thanking the organizers, participants and the resource person for the success of the programme.
